Make It! Fried Green Tomatoes Part II

So yesterday we shared an amazing lower calorie recipe for Jalapeño-Pimiento Cheese.  These can certainly be enjoyed with the standard tortilla chip, but why not WOW your family, or yourself and serve it with Fried Green Tomatoes!!
I know what you will say..."Its so hard and there are many steps.  The breading is messy and it will take so long!".....STOP THERE.  This could not be easier or quicker.
Truly!

Green tomatoes are quite simply unripe red tomatoes. The tomatoes are pulled off the plants before the first glimmer of red appears. The tart and tangy flavor of the green tomato  lends itself to many different culinary uses.  In this case frying!! Look for firm tomatoes with no white spots.

Slice, Season with Salt & Black Pepper

Get your Mise en Place in order (always wanted to say that...too much Top Chef)

 Then, Bing!

 Bam!

 Boom!

Slip them in your frying pan,
Now quick get out your Jalapeño-Pimiento Cheese you made yesterday!  Place on pipping hot Fried Green Tomato.

Bon Appetite!

Now if you have an aversion to pimiento cheese my sister did introduce me to another new condiment obsession.....Vegenaise!  Think Mayo only healthier.  Way healthier.  It's vegan, all natural, gluten free, soy free and made with non GMO ingredients.  Go get some in the refrigerated section of your grocer.  We used Roasted Garlic flavor, which was a nice touch.  My husband tried both and clearly was more for the pimiento topping.

Whatever you put on top, put them on your plate this week.

Fried Green Tomatoes
Start with 2 large green tomatoes
Slice 1/2 inch thick
Season with salt & pepper
Set up 3 bowls (1 cup flour, 2 beaten eggs, 2 cups panko with 1 tsp. paprika & 1 tsp. garlic powder)
Dredge tomatoes in flour
Next Coat tomatoes in egg mixture
Then roll tomatoes in breadcrumb mixture
Slip into a hot cast iron frying pan prepped with 1/2 inch olive oil
Cook 2-3 minutes on each side
Drain on a paper towel lined plate
Sprinkle with coarse sea salt, serve immediately
Serves 4 as an appetizer
